A BRADFORD-born rugby league international has been questioned by police over child grooming allegations.
Adam Walker, 24, who plays for Super League side Hull Kingston Rovers, went voluntarily to a police station last month, to be questioned by officers.
The allegations were made public in an article in a national newspaper yesterday.
Prop forward Mr Walker, a Scottish international, was left out of Hull Kingston Rovers' 32-14 Super League loss to Huddersfield Giants yesterday.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A 24-year-old man voluntarily attended Castleford Police Station on Tuesday, June 16, in connection with an investigation into offences of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child. Inquiries are ongoing."
A Hull Kingston Rovers club statement said: "The club is aware of a West Yorkshire Police investigation involving Adam Walker.
"At no stage have the police, or local authority, made contact with the club to express concerns regarding any safeguarding issues.
"The club understands from speaking with Adam and his solicitor that he has not been arrested in relation to any allegations, has voluntarily assisted them with their enquiries, and maintains his total innocence of any allegations against him.
"However, in light of the article, it was felt by the club that it was most appropriate for Adam to be stood down for selection yesterday.
"This is not an admission of wrongdoing but felt to be in the best interests of everyone, including Adam."
