A SALON is celebrating a milestone anniversary by holding a huge fundraising drive for a local hospital.

Blues Hair Workshop, in Rawson Square, Bradford, is celebrating 30 years in business today.

To mark the occasion, staff hope to raise enough to buy a piece of equipment for the breast cancer service at St Luke's Hospital.

They have been holding all kinds of fundraising events, from raffles to outdoor challenges, and have so far collected around £4,000.

Last weekend, five staff members and four friends completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.

Manager Vicky Wilkinson said: "We started walking at six in the morning and we all did it in under 12 hours, which you have to do to qualify.

"The weather was awful - gale force winds and torrential rain. It went through your waterproof to your clothes underneath.

"It was very character building. Some of the team did struggle but other team members said, 'We are all going to do this, there's no giving in,' so there was a lot of motivation and team building."

Yesterday, staff held a dress-down day and the charitable festivities will continue today.

Salon owner Louise Cawkwell chose the good cause in memory of her mother, who lost her life to breast cancer. Her best friend also battled the disease and was treated at St Luke's.

The piece of equipment they hope to buy will depend on the total amount raised.
