FAMILIES are invited to step back in time as the 1940s are recreated in a sprawling wartime event this weekend.

More than 300 military vehicles will be on display and over 50 re-enactment groups will take to fields near Hunsworth for the biggest event of its kind in the North of England this weekend.

And in a major coup for organisers, there will be a ten-minute display by an iconic Spitfire aircraft on Saturday afternoon.

The Yorkshire Wartime Experience is expected to attract thousands of visitors in its fourth year, which commemorates two great conflicts of World War Two - The Battle of Britain and The Road to Dunkirk, The Evacuation.

Large living history displays, World War one and Two battle re-enactments, a First World War camp and trench system and fire power demonstrations are among the many attractions, along with 1940s entertainment throughout the day and a fun fair.

The event, at the showground off Hunsworth Lane, Hunsworth, Cleckheaton, will be open from 10am until 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Entry is £24 for a family of two adults and two children, or £10 per adult and £5 for children.
