SENTENCING of a Bradford man for possessing a prohibited sawn off shotgun had to be postponed because of a prosecution failure.
Sean Kavanagh, 31, of Hayes Crescent, Thornton, had been due to be sentenced yesterday at Bradford Crown Court.
But Judge Mark Savill told him the prosecution had failed to make inquiries about the basis of his guilty plea.
The judge said: "I cannot offer an explanation. They should have done it. I am adjourning the case for that to be done."
Kavanagh had admitted a charge, under section five of the 1968 Firearms Act, of possessing a prohibited weapon - a single barrel pump action shotgun with a barrel fewer than 24 inches in length - on a day between March 27 and March 30 this year.
Judge Savill adjourned sentencing until Monday. Remanding Kavanagh, who has been recalled on licence, into custody, he told him: "You know what is likely to be the outcome in this case."
