SENIOR figures from across Bradford will mark the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, which saw over 8,000 Muslim men and boys killed in Bosnia in July 1995, at a memorial event tomorrow.

The ceremony at City Hall from 11.30am marks the start of the national Remembering Srebrenica Memorial Week, which will be honoured by Bradford Council flying a Remembering Srebrenica flag in Centenary Square.

The event has been organised by volunteers from Bradford working with the UK charity, Remembering Srebrenica, to commemorate the lives lost and to help bring communities in Bradford together.

Richard Corbett MEP, the deputy leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party and a resident of Bradford, will be the keynote speaker while Bradford East Labour MP, Imran Hussain, will present awards to children who took part in a Srebrenica Memorial Football Tournament.

An interfaith service will be led by volunteers from Keighley, while young people from the Frizinghall Project will present their experiences of visiting Srebrenica.

Kevin Weaver, a former photojournalist turned artist, will be exhibiting paintings and photos taken in Bosnia and talking about his experiences there during the war.

Those interested in attending can contact organiser, Bradford Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, on 07582100052.
