A PAINTING by Bradford artist David Hockney has sold at auction for more than £3 million.
Arranged Felled Trees was painted in 2008 and shows the East Yorkshire landscape.
It went under the hammer at Sotheby's in London on Wednesday night and sold for £3,397,000 - more than £1m over its highest estimate of £2m.
The work, which was recently exhibited at The Royal Academy and the Guggenheim Bilbao, was part of a record-breaking evening for Sotheby's.
The auction house reached its highest-ever total for an auction of contemporary art in Europe at £130.4m.
"Bidders from across the globe were drawn to Warhol works that ripped up the rule book for 20th-century art, rediscovered Francis Bacon gems, and some of the greatest works by British artists of the last 70 years," said Alex Branczik, Sotheby’s head of contemporary art, London.
