AN inquest into the death of a former Bradford man found dead in the Malaysian jungle was opened in the country today.
Gareth Huntley, who lived and went to school in Apperley Bridge, went missing on Tioman Island on May 27 last year, and his body was discovered eight days later.
A post-mortem examination proved inconclusive, but Mr Huntley's relatives, including his mother, Janet Southwell, are hoping the hearing will provide some answers to what happened to him.
There is no confirmation as to how long the inquest will last, but Mrs Southwell, who lives in the Bradford district, is due to give evidence in Malaysia tomorrow before returning to the UK.
A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We are providing support to Gareth’s mother at the Malaysian Coroner’s inquest this week, and have been in regular contact with the Malaysian Authorities in relation to this case.
"Our thoughts remain with Gareth’s family and friends at this difficult time."
