VISITORS to the Bradford district can follow in the footsteps of film stars by visiting the locations where their movies were made.

Here, David Wilson, director of Bradford UNESCO City of Film, takes us through some of his favourite locations across the Bradford district.

Here they are, in no particular order, with Mr Wilson's comments beneath each one.

1 City Hall

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Bradford City Hall

"It's such an iconic building and was used for the 1959 Classic Room at the Top and also used by Coronation Street and Emmerdale among others in recent years. Also used to double as Westminster in the BBC’s The Great Train Robbery."

2 Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, Keighley

"It was used as a location in the 1972 classic The Railway Children but has been used in numerous films and TV dramas since then."

3 Little Germany, Bradford

"The architecture says it all. It doubled as Berlin for a war film called Wall of Tyranny. Also used in L.A. Without a Map and more recently used in Testament of Youth which came out in cinemas in January, and Bollywood comedy drama, Welcome 2 Karachi which came out in India on May 21 this year."

4 Cartwright Hall and Lister Park, Bradford

"Famously used in the opening sequence of Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life and more recently in Netflix drama Residue.

5 City Park

"Described to me by one TV producer as an iconic film location in the UK. Used recently in Kay Mellor’s The Syndicate and also in DCI Banks. Also provided the stunning backdrop for City of Film’s collaboration with BBC on Bollywood Carmen Live.

6 Saltaire

"Used for a new feature film, Hunters Prayer - not yet released - but also for the BBC’s adaptation of JB Priestley’s An Inspector Calls which will be out on BBC soon. Someone really should make a TV period drama about the life of Sir Titus Salt."

7 Haworth

"Used for a number of TV dramas but will be involved in the new Sally Wainwright biopic of the lives of the Brontes which starts filming next year."

8 Undercliffe Cemetery, Bradford

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Undercliffe Cemetery, where an after dark tour will take place as part of Bradford Literature Festival

"Used in Billy Liar, L.A. Without a Map (starring David Tennant) and more recently in Peaky Blinders."

9 Alhambra Theatre, Bradford

"The Alhambra was used as the set for The Dresser."

10 The Bradford Club, Bradford

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: The entrance to the Bradford Club

"Tucked away down Piece Hall Yard, this private members club is a real gem and was used as a location for the BBC’s The Great Train Robbery last year."
