A WEB of steel girders is giving Bingley a dramatic new skyline as the town's Aldi store takes shape.

Diggers were on the site, beside the A650 bypass, in February and now massive cranes are swinging beams into place as the German retail giant gets into its stride on the old Ferncliffe car park.

Councillor David Heseltine (Con, Bingley) said people were delighted with the speed of development and with a provisional opening date before Christmas.

"When you look over from the side of the bypass or the bank opposite it's a big lump of building going up and it looks well," Cllr Heseltine said.

"It's already a vast improvement on what was there for decades before and Aldi couldn't wish for better advertising right beside the bypass."

He said the prominence of the new store had the potential to make people take the exits off the bypass and visit Bingley.

"When you think of the tens of thousands of people using the bypass every week, it will be an ideal reason for people to pop into Bingley to get something for their lunches or teas and also visit other parts of the town.

"Hopefully et will be bringing jobs, good shopping and increased footfall for Bingley," he said.
