POLICE have released CCTV footage of a suspect they are trying to identify after the attempted robbery of a 94-year-old woman in Heckmondwike.

The victim was approached from behind by a young woman who grabbed hold of her handbag and tried to snatch it from her.

The elderly lady managed to keep hold of her bag, but was pulled to the floor in the struggle.

 

Detective Constable Richard Brooke, of Kirklees CID, said the incident happened on the footpath that leads from Heckmondwike town centre to Morrisons supermarket.

"The CCTV footage shows the suspect walking in front of the victim on Croft Street as they head towards the footpath where the incident took place," he said.

"The suspect is about 20 years-old, around 5ft 6ins tall, and of slim or medium build.

"She has long dark wavy hair which was tied back at the time, and was described as having blotchy skin and wide eyes.

"We hope that this CCTV footage will jog someone's memory, and we urge anyone with information about this suspect, or any other information about the incident, to ring 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111."

The incident occurred around 2pm on Friday, May 15.
