A SWIMMER had to be rescued from the Leeds and Liverpool canal by police after taking an ill-advised morning dip.
Emergency services including police, fire, ambulance and a police helicopter were despatched to Station Road, Shipley, after a report of a woman in the water from a worried member of the public at 8.58am today.
The woman in the canal had shouted to the passerby that they were "going for a swim".
In the few minutes before fire crews arrived, police had extricated the swimmer, who was given some words of advice on the dangers of swimming in the Leeds and Liverpool canal at any time.
The woman was then taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary for a health check.
A police spokesman confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances and no further action would be taken.
