SOCIAL housing group Incommunities has teamed up with local cycle project The Bikery to run family-fun events where cyclists can get free bike health checks.

The three day project finishes today with a final session from 12 to 4pm by the canal towpath at The Quays, in Shipley.

Cycling experts from The Bikery will be on hand to repair bikes, give advice on maintaining your bike and there will be a prize draw.

People will also be able to bring along their unwanted bikes for re-homing during the three day event which forms part of the Big Bike Revival, a national celebration to encourage more people to dig out their bikes and rediscover the joys of cycling.

The Bikery is also working with Incommunities to start a training and community hub at Buchan Towers, off Manchester Road, Bradford, in a ground floor space provided by the housing group.

Tomorrow from 12pm to 4pm, a family fun day takes place outside the flats where there will be face painting, balloon modelling, arts and craft stalls, bike checks and pedal powered smoothies.

The Bikery is supported by the Margaret Carey Foundation and Incommunities.

Anthony Thomson, of The Bikery, said: "We are delighted to be opening this community hub at Buchan Towers and delivering more free workshops in partnership with Incommunities."

Steve Short, director of Incommunities – Open Field, said: "Cycling is an excellent and popular way for all of us to keep fit and enjoy the outdoors.

"The planned new facility at Buchan Towers provides a new base and I'm sure it will be a great resource for the local community."
