ABOUT 20 Brownies and Guides in Clayton, Bradford, helped clear up an area by a park by taking part in a litter pick.

Brown Owl Bridget Tempest-Mitchell said the girls had come up with the idea themselves after leaders noticed that it was beginning to look untidy near Victoria Park.

Members of 3rd Clayton Brownies as well as First Clayton Guides took part in the clean up operation, after grabbers and bin bags were loaned from Bradford Council.

Mrs Tempest-Mitchell said: "They have been very keen. I was surprised by their level of interest. They are the ones that suggested we do the litter pick in the first place. It started because one of the leaders noticed it had got a little bit untidy around the park.

"We have borrowed equipment from the Council and they have agreed to collect the bags afterwards when they are full."

She added that it could lead to an environmental badge for the Brownies taking part.

The groups for seven to16-year-olds meet weekly during term time at Clayton Methodist Church, Clayton Lane.
