AN 80-year-old woman was hospitalised with injuries to her face and arms after being hit by one of the cyclists taking part in the Tour De Yorkshire.
The accident happened near the Cow and Calf in Ilkley, and also left the rider with minor injuries.
The woman was among the thousands of spectators watching the peloton as it passed through the town.
A police spokesman said: "Shortly before 4pm an elderly female was struck by a competitive cyclist on the A65, near to the bottom of the Cow and Calf.
"As a result of the collision an 80-year-old woman suffered facial and arm injuries and was taken to Airedale General Hospital.
"The rider suffered minor injuries in the collision and was forced to retire from the stage."
