THE district's NHS Trusts are expected to fall into deficit this financial year, according to new figures released by Labour.

A leaked NHS providers survey gives forecasts for 98 NHS trusts, and comparative figures the previous two years.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recorded a surplus of £3.7 million in 2013/14 , which went to a surplus of £2.3m in 2014/15.

It is forecast to have a deficit of £2m this year.

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust recorded a surplus of just over £1m in 2013/14 and broke even last year. It is forecast to report a deficit of £1.2m this year.

An Airedale NHS Foundation Trust spokesman confirmed it had a budgeted for a deficit of £1.2m for this year to finance extra nursing staff to cover demand over the winter months. It said it already had the liquidity in the Trust to finance the move.

No-one from the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was available for comment.

Nationally, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has the highest expected deficit for 2015/16 of £52.1m.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has the highest expected surplus this year, with £15m.
