A FUNDRAISING page set up following the death of Cougars player Danny Jones has collected almost £42,000 of donations in just one day.

The Justgiving web page was set up by the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, which provides relief for people who have been injured whilst playing or training for rugby football league.

The page went live early yesterday, and within just a few hours thousands of pounds had been donated by rugby fans across the country.

Some donations were made by clubs, such as Latchford Albion, which donated £50, and left a message saying: "Everyone at the club was sorry to hear the sad news. Our thoughts go out to the family & friends of Danny."

Originally the target for the page was to raise £1,000.

Other clubs have offered support, with Haydock ARLFC announcing that there will be collections at their games this week for Jones' family. And Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont has separately pledged £2,000 and challenged other club owners to do the same.
