YOUNG musicians in Keighley could share in a £16,000 prize pot to help them with their careers.

Organisers of the Pendle Young Musicians’ Bursary contest, which is staged every two years, have extended the catchment area to include South Craven and Keighley.

The bursary – open to students aged 17 to 21 – provides funding towards tuition, instruments and courses to help musicians pursue their ambitions.

Cellist Ruth Hallows, who was among the last winners, said: “It’s a really fantastic opportunity for local young musicians to showcase their skills in great performance venues.

“The bursary itself has opened so many doors for me, both in the local area and across the UK. It has allowed me to study with incredible cellists as well as furthering my studies abroad."

It has been a huge support and I am truly grateful.”Entries can be submitted between now and November 21. Visit pymb.co.uk and search for Pendle Young Musicians’ Bursary on Facebook for more details.
