IT could take weeks to identify a man who died in a fierce fire at a house in Bradford on the Easter weekend.

The man is thought to be the 68-year-old disabled occupant of the property in Croft Street, Wibsey. He lived there alone.

The two-storey house was engulfed in flames on Sunday teatime. Rescuers tried to break down the back door of the house to reach the man but were beaten back by the flames.

The body of the man was found by emergency services, who forced their way in, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were yesterday still working with fire chiefs in a bid to establish the cause of the blaze, but they do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.

A spokesman for the Bradford coroner said a post-mortem examination was due to take place today but dental and medical records would be necessary to try and identify the dead man. An inquest is not expected to be opened for at least another week.
