MAKERS of a short film shot in Bradford for just £60 are looking for crowdfunding to extend it to full feature film length.

The 23-minute version of Gatecrasher, shot mainly in the city, is already a major international success and has received rave reviews, says Frank Ryan, Bradford-based actor and joint producer of the film.

Now HCR Films Ltd, an independent film production company based in Bradford, hopes to re-shoot the full version this year but to make it happen needs to secure more than £120,000 from crowdfunders - businesses and individuals - and a bit more from private investors.

Donations from £5 upwards will in return get certain rewards as a thank-you, including update e-mails on filming to meeting the cast, days on set, an unedited dvd copy and being named associate producers.

Stephen Fry has expressed an interest and has said he will mention it on Twitter, said Mr Ryan.

The original was made with support from local businesses, Bradford Council, Bradford Chamber of Commerce and City of Film on location at City Park, the Alhambra, Theatre in the Mill and the Midland Hotel.

"With the support of like minded companies and individuals we can produce a film of which we all can be justly proud," said Mr Ryan who has had talks with a distribution company in Los Angeles.

Billed as a dark comedy, it is about a gay young up-and-coming actor who struggles finding work after drama school and has a growing obsession with a hugely successful author and playwright. It was written by Yorkshire writer Adam Hughes who won last year's Kenneth Brannagh New Writers Awards.

Former Emmerdale actor Ryan Prescott, who has been in Kay Mellor's The Syndicate, and Mr Ryan, who has been in Vacation Hunter, Clean Slate, Hobgoblyn and Heartbeat play the main parts.

Mr Ryan said any backers will be helping showcase local talent globally, create more jobs in Bradford and put the city on the film map.

So far Gatecrasher, posted on YouTube, has had more than 250,000 views and is popular in China, where sub-titles have been added and even posters are being sold. "All of which augers well for the feature version," said Mr Ryan.

The low-budget film has won star reviews from film critics in London, New York, Los Angeles and Toronto and was screened around the world from Kiev to Rio de Janeiro, being nominated Best International Short at the Puerto Rico International Film Festival and winning the Jury Award at the Frech Frivoles Festival in Berlin.

David Wilson, from Bradford City of Film, said: "I take my hat off to anyone going alone to find funding. Crowdfunding has been behind a number of successful films. Good luck to them!"
