A DINNER is being held to show appreciation to those past and present who have been involved in the annual Valley Parade Memorial Tournament.

The tournament has been held every year since 1986, and commemorates the tragic events on May 11, 1985, which claimed the lives of 56 supporters.

More than 12,000 participants have taken part in the event, organised by Bradford Council’s Sport and Leisure Service, and sponsored by the Prison Officers’ Association.

The dinner takes place from 7pm on Wednesday, April 1, at Valley Parade.

Representatives from Bradford Council and the Prison Officers’ Association, who have organised the tournament from its outset, will be attending, along with past and present players and management from both Bradford City and Lincoln City football clubs.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mike Gibbons, the Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Brent Charlesworth, and Professor David Sharpe, founder of the Bradford Burns Unit, will also be in attendance, alongside representatives from the Football Association, and the clubs taking part in this year’s tournament which is being held over the Easter weekend.
