BRADFORD table tennis champion Oye Jemiyo is edging closer to the 2016 Paralympic Games after winning a medal at an international tournament.
He brought home a bronze medal from the Hungarian Open in the class 2 men’s team event against Israel.
Oye’s partner Colin Judge won his singles match 3-0, while Oye – who has been confined to a wheelchair since the age of two after contracting polio – fought hard to clinch a 3-2 victory in his match. The pair then won their doubles match 3-0 at the tournament in the city of Eger, northern Hungary.
“The French team we lost to in the group match eventually won the gold,” said Oye.
He is one of the world’s top wheelchair players and is ranked number one in Great Britain in class two of the Paralympic sport. Dedicated to table tennis, he is aiming for a place in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
