BRADFORD’S National Media Museum is to share a £300,000 Government funding pot to deliver a series of Pop-Up Science Festivals in the city.

The money, to be shared with the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, will fund six events across the two venues, designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Jo Quinton-Tulloch (pictured), director of the National Media Museum, said: “Careers in science, technology, engineering and maths can take you to the most extraordinary places, from the depths of the oceans to the new frontiers of space travel.

“The festivals we’ll deliver in Bradford will inspire young people from every background to begin these journeys.”

Bradford Council leader, Cllr David Green, said: “This is really welcome news as it raises the profile of theNational Media museum as well as providing educational benefits to our young people.

“We’re really keen that the children and young people of our district are inspired by science, and develop their knowledge which is enriching and enhances their employability.”

The week-long events will build on programmes already run by the two museums committed to challenging the low-levels of science engagement among young people.

Full details of the festivals, which are expected to draw an audience of about 27,000, will be announced in the coming weeks.
