A daring diner with a big appetite has completed a giant challenge at a Bradford restaurant to raise funds for the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal.

Adam Moran, 29, of Whinmoor, Leeds, became the first of more than 700 people before him to complete the naan bread challenge at Omar's Balti House in Great Horton Road.

Customers had 35 minutes to eat a balti dish of their choice and a naan measuring 3ft by 1ft 6ins on their own.

But he completed the naan challenge in just 21 minutes 55 seconds on Tuesday night, washing it down with a jug of water, a bowl of chicken rogan josh and a dessert of chocolate ice-cream within a further five minutes.

He has won a week's holiday to Barcelona and £100 spending money for completing the challenge.

Mr Moran has also uploaded a film of his exploits onto YouTube. He has completed other eating tests and is known online as Beard Meats Food.

Omar's will also be donating £200 from the cash raised by the feat to the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal.

The Telegraph & Argus is working in partnership with the University of Bradford, Yorkshire Cancer Research and Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust to reach the target.

The cash will be used to buy a new piece of kit, called a proteomics mass spectrometer, for use by researchers at the university's institute of Cancer Therapeutics.

The culinary challenge is the latest event for the charity, which aims to raise £1 million.

People from around the UK tried and failed the task over the last ten years, including University of Bradford students.

Despite seeing the food feat completed, the challenge has been re-opened by the restaurant.

Mr Moran said: "It was not the most difficult food challenge I have done.

"The worst thing I had to deal with was the flavour fatigue. Bread tends to expand in your stomach, so around 18 minutes in I started to feel a bit nauseas. It was mind over matter then."

Mohammad Sadiq, owner of Omar's, said: "It was unbelievable.

"It feel happy that somebody has completed the challenge.

"I still can't believe that somebody can do it.

"It took such a long time for someone to do it. A lot of people had tried to do it.

"He is of medium build, he was not a big person.

"After he had done it, he was jumping and hugging his girlfriend.

"It is also good to give money to such a good cause as well."

Our reporter Mark Stanford tries the giant naan challenge back in January. Here's how he got on.
