BRADFORD College's hospitality and travel department has been announced as the winner of a national award for "outstanding contribution to a subject."

The team under the leadership of Programme Manager Hayley Lomas, won the Outstanding Contribution to a Subject or Vocational Area Award at this year’s TES FE Awards.

Hosted by David Baddiel, the ceremony in the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Friday included prizes for the teacher of the year, college of the year and outstanding contribution to the local community.

The Bradford College team has improved student success rates in the subject by 22 per cent in recent years, with 90 per cent of catering students’ progressing to the next level within the department; and turnover in the college’s training restaurant and eating zone has nearly doubled.

Commenting on winning the award, Mrs Lomas said: “The night was amazing. It is such a privilege to have our work, which we enjoy so much, recognised in this way.”
