SEVEN youth centres across the district could be under threat in their current form, Bradford Council has announced.
The youth centres are Denholme Youth Café, Scholemoor Centre, Buttershaw Youth Centre, Silsden Youth Centre, Haworth Youth Centre, the Eco Pod in Bradford East and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Centre, also in Bradford East.
A new report recommends that the council explores alternative ways of managing these buildings, following a review of the youth service estate.
It also recommends that the Shipley Area Committee retains the Bingley Youth Project, but that it looks at alternative community use for the Highcroft Youth Centre.
Councillor Ralph Berry, the Council’s executive member for children and young people, said: “Should we need to stop using certain buildings, it is our intention to work with community groups to explore ways of developing them for use.”
Eight other youth centres look set to be retained, including Shipley Youth Café, the TFD Centre in Holme Wood, and The Pod in Bradford South.
