POLICE are investigating a racially-aggravated incident which led to a fight on a Bradford-bound train.

British Transport Police (BTP) officers want to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, which took place on the 6.10pm Leeds to Bradford Forster Square service on Saturday, February 21.

Detective Constable Rory Durant, the investigating officer, said three men who had boarded the service in Leeds began to racially abuse three Asian women who were travelling with their small children.

Two passengers on the train attempted to intervene, and as a result, a fight broke out.

As the train pulled into Frizinghall, another passenger managed to break up the melee and both groups left the train.

Police were called but the two groups were found to have fled the area when officers arrived.

“The victims were very frightened and understandably have been left very shaken by what must have been a terrifying experience," said Det Con Durant.

“Investigations are ongoing, but I would like to appeal to anyone who was on-board the train and witnessed the incident to come forward and contact us."

Anyone with information should contact BTP on 0800 405040, or text 61016, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
