A COLLECTION of knitted items from up and coming contemporary craftmakers has gone on display in Bradford.

Knit, held at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, looks at materials, designs and technologies used in contemporary craft.

A collection of 25 pieces has gone on show throughout the Lister Park site including a framed lit up knitted fibre optic wires display, knitted blankets and jewellery.

A knitted bowl, made using 20 saris dipped in clay, also features in the exhibition.

Some of the pieces are available to buy for between £95 and £6,500.

Half of the items have been loaned from the Craft Council in London and the others have been made by Hothouse, craftmakers from across the world who have been through the Council’s Hothouse programme.

Sonja Kielty, exhibition curator, said: “The exhibition proves that it is not just little old ladies who do it now, but it can also be an exciting thing too.

“It’s great that people who can’t get the chance to go to London to see these pieces, now get a chance to.”

The free exhibition will run until Sunday, August 23, but a range of events will be held throughout the next few months at the site alongside the display.

These include a creative knitting event on Thursday, May 7.
