THE father of a murdered four-year-old boy is behind bars awaiting sentence for assault after seeking solace for his grief in alcohol, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

Darren Turner, 24, whose son Riley was savagely killed by psychopathic ex-soldier Anwar Rosser, had taken a legal high and been drinking when he attacked his partner and her friend and smashed up property.

His case was today adjourned for a full probation report by the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, who said of the murder: "I don't know how that affects the father of a child, in this case. It must have been terrible."

Turner pleaded guilty to the assault by beating of Charlotte Beck and a friend of hers on February 5 and damaging property at Miss Beck's home in Hawthorn Close, Keighley. He also admitted having a metal bar as an offensive weapon.

Solicitor advocate, Nigel Jamieson, said Turner had been recalled to prison on licence until December 17.

He had sought solace in alcohol since the murder of his son. He did not receive counselling at the time but was now receiving help in prison.

Judge Thomas (pictured) adjourned sentence until March 18.

Rosser is serving a full life term for murdering Riley on January 20, 2013.
