A GROUP of long-serving tenants have been honoured for their work with Incommunities.

Each of the ten dedicated tenants were recognised for their significant contribution over the last ten years to the work of the housing group, its customers and residents across the Bradford district.

Their involved work includes serving on housing boards, management trusts, customer panels and tenant committees.

The group of ten Incommunities ‘long servers’ are Val Barker, Alex Brown, John Hanson, Ralph Hewitt, Connie Kiely, Steve Pickles, Jenny Scott, Carol Stevenson, Doris Sunter and Andrew Wilson.

Alex Brown, of Braithwaite in Keighley, who chairs several groups including Aire-Wharfe Local Management Trusts and Bradford District Federation of Tenant and Residents, said: “I really value making a positive difference to other people’s lives whether this is through working with Incommunities or representing my local community association.

“Giving some time is a great way of getting involved and having a voice.”

Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group chief executive, presented each tenant with an engraved clock and certificate of recognition yesterday.

She said: “A big thank you to all our long serving tenants who each show a real passion and commitment in their roles.

“Many of these volunteers have been a big part of our journey from the days of our stock transfer to the growth of the business today.

“We really value having hundreds of involved customers who show a pride in helping others and improving where they live.

"I look forward to celebrating their contribution at future events like this.

"It is particularly fitting to be marking their fantastic contribution as we come up to our 12th birthday as a social housing provider."

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mike Gibbons, also attended yesterday's event at Incommunities' base at The Quays, Victoria Street, Shipley.

Doris Sunter, of Laisterdyke, said: “I am delighted to be recognised by my landlord, Incommunities.

“I really enjoy helping people whether it’s as a member of my residents group or Senior Voice, a group representing older housing customers.

“Being an involved tenant is a great way of making a difference to the lives of other residents.”

Incommunities is one of the largest social housing providers in the UK. They offer homes, mostly for rent, in neighbourhoods across the Bradford District.

The group currently own nearly 21,300 homes for rent and have almost 1,000 leasehold properties.
