MEMBERS of the West Yorkshire Chinese Community Association will celebrate the Chinese New Year today.
The Chinese community in Bradford is marking the Year of the Sheep.
Members were set to gather at the Yama oriental takeaway in Halifax Road, Cullingworth, where association vice-chairman Peter Chiu was working last night.
Mr Chiu said the Chinese community in Bradford was also set to hold a series of celebration events in each other's homes.
He said: "We want to wish a happy new year to all of our members.
"We have a few hundred members in the Association and a lot of them are from the Bradford district."
In Chinese astrology, 2015 is the last year of the Fire cycle which began in 2013.
It is said if fire brought someone luck in 2013 and 2014, then their luck will continue this year.
People born during the year are said to be tender, polite, clever, and kind-hearted.
But they are also described as indecisive, timid, pessimistic and moody.
Sheep is among the animals that people like the most.
The Year of the Sheep lasts until February 7 next year.
