SHAW Moisture Meters became part of Bradford's success story by pioneering the development of devices to help the textile industry identify overpriced wool.

Its former headquarters is now set to form the backdrop to another positive chapter in Bradford's history with the opening of the first brewery in the city for half a century.

The Bradford Brewery opens its bar to the public today although on-site brewing will be coming a little later, after final work is done on the micro-brewery which can be seen from the bar.

When it is fully operational it will produce 15,000 pints a week with most of the output being sold around the city, said managing director Matthew Halliday.

He said: "People are talking across the city about the resurgence of Bradford and I hope this opening gives people more confidence that Bradford is on the up and there will be a new type of Bradford, modern, good quality and looking at what is happing in other cities."

His intention was for the brewery and bar, off Westgate and Rawson Road, to become part of the city's "manifesto" for the future, with the beer it produces hopefully going on to be sold across the region.
