POLICE investigating an attempted burglary have arrested a man who was found nearby and officers have issued a safety warning.

A householder was alerted when security lighting activated at Cavalier Drive, Apperley Bridge, on February 12 after a man attempted to force a door.

Officers found a man matching the offender's description nearby with a pair of pliers and he was arrested.

Sergeant Rick Newton said: " Although burglaries are reducing in the area, it is wise to review the security of your home.

"Fit good quality locks to your doors and windows and use them.

"Consider outside security lighting with motion sensors. As spring approaches, look at the security of your garage, shed or outbuilding, often used for storing garden tools and machinery, and upgrade where required.
