A MYSTERY punter who placed a £500 bet on Bradford City at 125-1 to win the FA Cup and has pledged to hand any winnings to the city’s world famous Burns Unit... is rubbing his hands after they knocked Premier League Sunderland out of the competition.

The gambler could land £62,500 and bookmakers William Hill, who are an official partner of the FA Cup, have been so impressed with his generosity that they have vowed to donate his £500 stake to the Bradford Burns Unit even if the League One giant killers fail to win the famous trophy.

After yesterday's 2-0 victory Bradford are now 40-1 with William Hill to lift the famous trophy created in 1911 by Fattorini and Sons in the city in the very year Bradford last lifted the FA Cup.

The Bradford Burns Unit is a world renowned research facility set up at the University of Bradford following the city’s stadium fire disaster on May 11, 1985. The fire disaster at Valley Parade killed 56 people and injured more than 250 others.

In the previous round the Bantams came from 2-0 down at Stamford Bridge to stuff Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea 2-4 in what has been hailed as the greatest FA Cup upset of all time, and have now gone on to knock out Premier League rivals Sunderland at Valley Parade.

William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: 'It is a fantastic gesture that this dedicated Bradford City fan is making. And win, lose or draw William Hill intend to donate the stake to the man to add to his donations to the Bradford Burns Unit.

'The unit is the one bright thing to come from what was a very dark day for football and it's a very good cause indeed as this year is the 30th anniversary of that terrible fire at Valley Parade.

'The odds have been slashed since he placed his bet, but his slip ensures he has 125-1 not the 40-1 currently on offer.'

Bradford City chairman Mark Lawn has seen the William Hill betting slip and wishes the punter the very best of luck with his bet.

William Hill odds: Arsenal 15-8, Man United 5-2, Liverpool 11-4, West Brom 10-1, Aston Villa 12-1, , Middlesbrough 50-1, Blackburn 25-1, Reading 40-1, Bradford 40-1 and Preston 150-1.
