POLICE have recovered a scooter stolen from Allerton last year, but not before it was stripped of its components.
On Saturday, officers from West Yorkshire Police's Off Road Bike Team were called to Clayton by a member of the public regarding an abandoned motorbike.
Searching Thearne Green, officers came across a scooter hidden in undergrowth.
The bike had been damaged and was without its engine or registration plate. It did still have its tax disk, and chassis number, which matched and revealed that the bike was stolen from the Allerton area in December.
PC Shaun Cannon said: “Although there isn’t much left of this vehicle it is still someone’s property and as such has been recovered. The engine has been stolen from this vehicle but this will carry a unique engine number. As part of our roadside checks, we always check for chassis and engine numbers on bikes so if the engine number from this bike is found to be in another bike then the rider will have some questions to answer at the police station."
