A MAN who struck his brother-in-law with a claw hammer, fracturing his skull, has been jailed for 21 months. Kyle Hussain, 23, of Kismet Gardens, Bradford Moor, Bradford, was sentenced by Judge Peter Benson at Bradford Crown Court yesterday after pleading guilty to wounding.

Prosecutor Alesha Kaye said Hussain lived with his sister, her partner and her four-year-old daughter, and there had been ongoing arguments about the defendant’s contributions to household finances.

At 8.15pm, on July 31 last year, there was an argument about cleaning the house and babysitting. When he returned to the house later in the evening, Hussain and the complainant faced up to each other and the defendant swung a punch. He then hit him twice on the head with the claw hammer.

The pair struggled on the floor and Hussain bit the complainant to the body. Eventually the complainant pushed the defendant and he fell down stairs and fled the house. The victim was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary. He suffered a depressed skull fracture and also had two wounds to his head glued.

The defendant was arrested but made no comment to police.
