ROADWORKS abandoned by a gas company should be restarted later this year, a councillor has said.

Councillor Geoff Reid contacted Northern Gas Networks (NGN) last month with concerns that no work was being done in Moorside Road, Eccleshill.

At the time, NGN agreed to fill in the hole, reopen the road and return to carry out the work during better weather.

Now, Cllr Reid (Lib Dem, Eccleshill) said the works have been rescheduled for some time after March.

He said: “NGN have told me that they do not expect to return to the site on the narrow section of Moorside Road in Eccleshill Village until after the end of March.

“It could even be as late as September. Half-joking I encouraged them to get it done before next winter. I felt it was important to be sure.

“They have promised to contact me.”
