MOUNTED police have staged a high-visibility patrol in a Keighley park where there has been a spate of violent attacks.

Two officers visited Lund Park, as well as the Fell Lane and Oakworth Road areas of the town.

Constables Sarah Dodsworth and Marie Lawrenson spoke to residents as they patrolled the neighbourhood, on Fimber and Ilkley.

Major new safety improvements were pledged for Lund Park in November after a series of incidents, including Bonfire Night-related attacks and the shocking mugging of army veteran George Gill as he made his way to Keighley’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations.

Keighley Town Council voted to buy a CCTV camera for one of the most dangerous areas of the park.

And Bradford councillors pledged action and an online petition was launched for the return of full-time park wardens.

PC Rob Schofield, who is second in command of the Wakefield-based West Yorkshire Police mounted section, said: “We always get a fantastic reaction from people, who will come up to talk to the officers and of course pet the horses.

“It is a great way of breaking down barriers between the police and the community.”
