A DRUNKEN party goer raped a young woman on a couch after downing a bottle of whisky and ten bottles of lager, a jury heard.

Former Bradford man Michael McCallion refused to take no for an answer after asking to meet up with an old friend, it is alleged.

McCallion, previously of the city's Lower Grange area but now living in Farfield Road, Bridlington, denies rape in the early hours of December 1, 2012.

Prosecutor Jayne Beckett told Bradford Crown Court yesterday that McCallion and the complainant were friendly before he left Bradford and had kept in touch by text and on Facebook.

They met up at a house party arranged by a mutual friend and then went on to another flat in the city.

Mrs Beckett said McCallion was drunk and kept asking the woman to be in a relationship with him.

He tried to kiss her but she pushed him away.

When the two other women they were with retired to bed, McCallion again made sexual advances, it is alleged.

The woman wanted to go to sleep on the couch and made it clear she was not interested, Mrs Beckett said.

But McCallion pulled down her underwear and raped her, it is alleged.

She succeeded in pushing him away and ran out of the flat in tears.

McCallion texted her while he was still in the flat to say sorry and she replied: "I told you 'no'. You still did it," the jury was told.

When the woman confronted him and told him he had raped her, he barged out, Mrs Beckett said.

The woman complained to the police two days later that she had been raped.

McCallion was interviewed and denied having sex with her.

The woman said in her taped police interview that McCallion was crying after texting her to apologise.

She said that was the last time she had ever spoken to him.

She told the jury she had thought he was a very nice person but he was drunk that night after drinking a bottle of whisky and ten bottles of Carlsberg lager.

The trial continues.
