FAMILIES across Yorkshire are only 34 days away from the breadline should they lose their income, a new survey has suggested.

The ‘Deadline to the Breadline’ research, conducted by financial services firm Legal & General, claimed it would take just over a month for people’s savings to run out, leaving them reliant on state benefits or support from family and friends.

The average rate for households across the UK was 29 days, with Wales showing the shortest deadline at just seven days.

Mark Holweger, of Legal & General, said: “Our report exposes the harsh reality that many households are on the brink.”
