A SOCCER fan who made offensive online comments about the Valley Parade fire tragedy following Saturday's game between Bradford City and Chesterfield has been banned for life by the club he supports.
Club officials have also asked police to investigate whether the offender's actions could constitute a crime. The Chesterfield fan used the internet to taunt Bradford fans about the blaze in 1985 which took the lives of 56 people as flames from a rubbish fire swept through a wooden stand.
Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner said: “We launched an immediate investigation into this matter after receiving a number of complaints from Bradford City fans who were understandably upset about the comments made by this person.
It is totally unacceptable behaviour which will not be tolerated by this club. Having identified the individual involved, the Appropriate action has nowbeen taken."
“Furthermore, we will be referring this matter to the police, inviting them to investigate whether any criminal offences have been committed.”
