A 37-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for six months for smashing his way into a cutting edge Bradford art gallery and making off with cash and electrical goods worth £1,900.

Alistair Cooper, of North Avenue, Manningham, Bradford, was sentenced for burglary on a video link from Leeds Prison to Bradford Crown Court today.

He admitted hurling an iron drainage grate through a window at the Fuse Art Space gallery in Rawson Place, Bradford city centre, at 11pm on October 29.

His unidentified accomplice crawled inside and the burglars made off with music and DJ equipment, as well as a flat screen TV that was part of an exhibition.

Cooper was caught by a police community support officer carrying off the TV that was still attached to its wall brackets.

He dumped it on the ground, jumped a fence and was caught hiding on top of a container, prosecutor Philip Adams said.

Cooper had 39 previous convictions for burglary, the court was told, and he was on prison licence at the time.

In mitigation, it was said that he was a crack cocaine addict who acted on impulse that night and was determined to mend his ways.
