A MAN had a knife held to his throat and suffered deep cuts to his hand when he tried to defend himself against muggers in a "frightening" attack close to the The University of Bradford.

The man was walking along Back Laisteridge Lane when he heard footsteps behind him and was suddenly grabbed by a man.

A blade was pushed up to his throat and demands made for his mobile phone and wallet.

As the 28-year-old victim started handing over his wallet, he went to grab the knife and during the struggle suffered what police described as "serious cuts" to his fingers.

The mugger then took the wallet and phone and ran towards Laisteridge Lane.

Detective Constable Katie Madden, from Bradford District Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: "This was clearly a frightening experience for the victim who has been left with some very serious injuries to his hand. I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the robber running off."

His victim was taken to hospital to receive treatment for his cuts following the incident at around 9.40pm on Friday night.

The road was cordoned off for the rest of the night while police crime scene investigators collected evidence.

The suspect was described as an Asian male, aged 15 to 25, 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins and slim, with short black hair. He was wearing dark clothing.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC Madden at Trafalgar House via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
