THE Christmas spirit is alive and well in a Bradford school, after dozens of Advent calendars were given to some of the poorest families in the city.
The Friends of Clayton Village Primary School had organised a collection of the calendars to give to the Bradford City Food Bank. They wanted to make sure children in poorer families did not miss out on a festive treat if their parents had to prioritise their spending on essentials.
People were asked to buy an extra calendar and bring them to the school, and over two weeks almost 130 calendars were donated, not only by pupils and their parents but also by the wider Clayton community. Calendars featuring the Mr Men, Disney’s Frozen and Marvel Superheroes were donated.
Vicky Drake, office administrator at the school, said: “We couldn’t believe how many calendars we’d had brought in to be honest. It was the wider community and not just the school.”
Other festive food was also collected for the Bradford food bank.
