HUNDREDS of smiling students donned their caps and gowns for Bradford College’s second day of graduation ceremonies yesterday.

After three ceremonies on Monday, yesterday was the turn of graduates of business and law, computing, construction, engineering, sport, travel and opthalmic dispensing.

The events were held in St George’s Hall followed by a reception in the Great Victoria Hotel.

Honorary Fellowships were also awarded to Ilkley businessman Paul Mackie and president of the Bradford Chamber and Qatar-born businessman Khalid Al-Hamar.

Bradford College Group chief executive officer Andy Welsh said: “We wish our graduates and Honorary Fellows every success in their future careers.

“We are very proud of them and we look forward to celebrating their invaluable contributions to the continued development of Bradford, the region and communities overseas.”

Among the graduates were Mohammed Zain Hussain, 23, and Nafeesa Jamil, 23, who have been at school together since they were 13 and both enrolled on the diet, nutrition and health degree. The couple plan to marry next year.

Miss Jamil said: “I’m just really happy to be here with Mohammed and all my friends and family.”

Principal Kath Oldale said to graduates: “You will be following in the footsteps of more than 180 years of remarkable people who have made a difference regionally, nationally and internationally.

“We hope that you take with you very special memories of the college, the city of Bradford and that you enjoy graduation ceremony today, your special day that celebrates your academic achievements and that you can look to the future with great pride.”
