A JURY watched graphic CCTV footage of mass street brawl in Bradford city centre, showing victims being stabbed, punched, kicked and stamped on.

The seven women and five men were shown the images of disorder in which people suffered injuries, including multiple stab wounds and a fractured skull.

Prosecutor Glenn Parsons told Bradford Crown Court yesterday the case concerned an incident of serious violent disorder which occurred in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday, May 26 this year in Sackville Street and Westgate.

Mr Parsons said a number of very serious assaults flowed from the disorder, but what caused the trouble was not clear.

On trial are Jahbari Blair, 18, of Rookwood Vale, Osmondthorpe, Leeds, who denies a charge of wounding with intent; Levon Halliday, 31, of Reginald Street, Chapeltown, Leeds, who pleads not guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and an alternative charge of violent disorder; and a 17-year-old youth, of Bradford Moor, who cannot be identified because of his age, who denies violent disorder.

Mr Parsons said the incident began when Blair threw a punch at another man as they were stood by the door of Club C's nightclub in Sackville Street, and soon escalated.

At its height a significant number of people, men and women, were involved in large scale disorder which led to a number of members of the public being assaulted. Several people were stabbed and one person was robbed of a bag containing £1,500.

The prosecutor said one victim, Rorrie Campbell, suffered four stab wounds, to his abdomen, chest, arm and shoulder in a joint attack by Blair, which he denied, and Jozeffi Jeffers, who had admitted the offence.

Another victim, Zeeshan Hussain, was stabbed in the back by Blair, who had pleaded guilty to wounding him with intent. He had also pleaded guilty to wounding Rian Anwar, who he also stabbed.

Another victim, Adam Hussain, suffered a fractured skull, broken nose and cuts after he was wrestled to the ground by Blair and hit several times over the head with a bottle by another defendant, Ryan Carpenter, who pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Mr Parsons said those guilty pleas demonstrated that Blair was armed with a knife and prepared to use it. He claimed Blair had been prepared to mete out a furious level of violence.

Blair had also pleaded guilty to violent disorder during which Halliday was alleged to have punched Mr Anwar in the face, and the 17-year-old youth was alleged to have hit him over the head with a bottle.

The trial continues.
