A BRADFORD robber once labelled one of the most wanted men in Yorkshire has escaped from a Derbyshire prison.

Police said Almas Leon Ullah, 27, absconded from HMP Sudbury at some point on Friday evening.

He was given an indeterminate public protection sentence for robbery at Bradford Crown Court in May 2008.

Ullah's last known address is thought to have been in Bradford, and when sentenced, the court was told he lived in Southfield Lane, Great Horton.

He was captured by armed police at a Bradford house after carrying out a string of violent robberies, including terrorising staff at two Bradford filling stations, using a Samurai sword, knives, and a gold club.

Upon pleading guilty to three robberies and an attempted robbery, Ullah asked for a further 98 offences to be taken into account, and the court heard he had taken £76,000 of property, £55,000 worth of vehicles, and caused £16,000 in damages in total.

Police described him as being of mixed race, 6ft tall, of slim build, with brown hair.

His front teeth are also said to be missing.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: "Anyone with any information about the whereabouts of this man is asked not to approach him, but to immediately contact their local police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
