BRADFORD West MP George Galloway is demanding the Government provides information on a new scheme for the unemployed.

He has branded the Community Work Placements initiative as a “hugely expensive riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma”.

He added: “The Community Work Placements scheme is supposed to be under the purview of the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP). But they don’t have a clue about it.”

Mr Galloway (pictured) continued: “Unemployed people lose their benefits if they refuse to work unpaid as a ‘volunteer’ litter-picker or some other task on a charitable or community project under this programme.

“But the people who dreamed it up at the department can’t say how many are on the scheme. They can’t say how many are on it in Bradford or in any other place in the country.” The MP has submitted a parliamentary motion condemning the lack of information on it.
