A TEENAGER is raising money to travel to Tanzania to make a difference to people's lives there.

Tia Clifford needs to raise £3,800 for a four-week visit to the African country in July 2016.

The North Halifax Grammar School student hopes to develop communities by helping to build schools, water pumps and paint a classroom.

The 14-year-old also hopes the trip will help her bid to get to medical school by enhancing her university application.

Some of the money raised will also be invested into the Tanzanian community she is working with to provide jobs.

Tia, of Cloverville Approach, Wibsey, has raised £500 so far by holding car washes, bag packing in a supermarket and holding a stall at a Christmas fair.

Tia's mother, Donna Durkin, said: "She has done amazing so far. She does like helping people."
