A PUPIL has taken a stand against irresponsible parking outside her primary school by highlighting the issue with highways bosses.

Isabelle Suddick has written to the Bradford Council's Road Safety Team about the attitude of parents parking on the pavement or double yellow lines outside All Saints' CE Primary School, in Little Horton.

The 11-year-old is also worried fire engines would not get through in an emergency.

“It's really busy round school in the morning," she said.

"The drivers should be more responsible and careful. If they don't, in the long run somebody could get hurt."

Head teacher John Davie said he was h was "really impressed" with Isabelle's initiative and the Council's road safety assistant Janet Firth said the letter was "brilliant".

Isabelle's call coincides with National Road Safety Week, which starts today with the theme Look Out for Each Other.

The week involves several organisations, including West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, and is co-ordinated by the road safety charity Brake.

Today the charity revealed that in the Bradford district there were 8,045 fixed penalty notices handed out for speeding in 2013.

More than 650 of those were given to people living in the BD20 area, which includes Steeton, Silsden, Riddlesden and the Utley area of Keighley.
