A 12-YEAR-OLD girl was dumped by her older boyfriend after he persuaded her to have sex with him, Bradford Crown Court heard.

The child told the police: "I did it because I thought if I didn't, he wouldn't like me any more."

Shaun Moone, who was 17 at the time of his brief relationship with the girl, pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child on a single occasion in her school summer holiday in 2012.

Moone, now 19, of Boltby Lane, Buttershaw, Bradford, told his probation officer he blamed the girl for what happened.

Prosecutor Jayne Beckett said the child had recently turned 12 when she agreed to have sex with Moone in his bedroom.

He knew her age after they had messaged on Facebook and met up a few times.

Moone committed the offence after they had watched television together and kissed and cuddled.

Mrs Beckett said the girl at first said no to sex but agreed because she wanted to keep Moone as her boyfriend.

Afterwards, he told her not to tell anyone or he would be in trouble with the police.

The girl was told off for getting home late that night but did not dare tell her father what had happened.

Moone messaged her once afterwards on Facebook but then deleted her from his account.

She confided to a friend that she had had sex with her 17-year-old boyfriend and the information was passed on to staff at their school, the court was told.

The social services became involved and the police were alerted.

Moone initially told the police he had never had sex with the girl.

He said she had contacted him on Facebook and tried to kiss him but he turned her down because she was too young.

Mrs Beckett read out a victim personal statement from the girl, saying she had received counselling and her school work had suffered.

She felt "scared and ashamed" and had been forced to move home because of the abuse she had been subjected to by other people.

Moone's barrister, Sukhdev Garcha, said he was an immature young man and the relationship with the girl lasted only about a week.

Judge Jonathan Rose today sentenced Moone to a three year community order, with supervision and a high intensity activity requirement.

He must obey a three month electronically monitored curfew and a restraining order, without limit of time, banning him from any future contact with the girl.

Judge Rose said the child, who was a virgin, had been anxious to please her boyfriend.

"You stole something from her that can never be replaced," he said.
